A.T. MEDTRA S.L is a leading provider of software for the management of employee health and prevention of employee risks. Founded in 1992, A.T Medtra is the first company to offer such a solution to the Spanish market with plans to market its software in Latin America. The company's software is used by companies offering medical services and large corporations that have employee health risk prevention programs in place.

The company current offers two products: WinMEDTRA is designed for Labor Health management and WinSEHTRA for managing security and hygiene in the workplace.

Changing Business Demands

According to Victor Diego, manager of A.T Medtra's development efforts, the company initially started offering its product with the DataFlex database. However, more and more frequently, the customers wanted an application that would run with their standard corporate database like Oracle, MS SQL Server and DB2. Victor adds, " On other occasions we were forced to move to a client/server solution to increase network throughput and increase overall application performance".
Realizing that being able to offer an application that worked well with all industry leading SQL databases, A.T MEDTRA decided to standardize with ISDBC drivers offered by Mertech.

Reasons for Choosing Mertech's Product

Victor states "Mertech's drivers allow us to offer our applications with different databases without the overhead of source code changes. This allows us to reduce our cost and at the same time makes us attractive compared to our competitor who do not offer connectivity to different SQL databases".
A.T MEDTRA also took into account the flexibility and ease of deployment offered by Mertech's product. "Another very important aspect of using Mertech's products is that with the tools of creation of tables and migrating data from DataFlex files to the target SQL aback-end has been made easy by Flex2SQL. Because the migration of the database is so easy, we can install our application at the customer site without in-depth knowledge of the target back-end. The same person can deploy our application at multiple sites since the same migration tool is used for migrating to multiple SQL databases".

"Although DAW had released a driver for DB2 before Mertech, we found several design limitations with the DB2 driver for DAW which convinced us to wait for Mertech's driver. Based our past experience with Mertech's Oracle and MS SQL Server, we were convinced that Mertech's product offering for DB2 will be of the same standard as their other drivers"
