Demand For Industry Standard Databases

According to F.A. "Woody" Spencer, Jr, President of USA Software, Inc. "We have been utilizing the native Dataflex database as the primary database for our applications since Dataflex version 2.2 (Dos/UNIX versions). Our customer base was asking for a more standardized backend database such as MS SQL Server since many of these cities and counties were adopting MS SQL Server as their standard for other applications. Plus, many of our competitors were offering their applications running with MS SQL Server. We were able to identify a number of benefits that would accrue to our customers when they converted to MS SQL Server from the native DataFlex database. This list includes true client-server server, increased Data-Integrity, Faster Reporting, Scalability, Integration with other tools and applications, Online backup and Disaster recovery".

Partnering with Mertech - A Win-Win Proposition

Woody adds, "We chose the Mertech product for its ease of use and its simplicity. We had tested it in-house in the past and knew of its speed and reliability. But my technical personnel were impressed with the ease with which we could do a conversion of an existing customer from Dataflex to MS SQL Server. And many of our customers have multiple files (tables) with hundreds of thousands of records in each one. And Mertech was right there to assist us the one time when we did need help".
By utilizing Mertech's driver for MS SQL Server, USA Software was able to protect its investment in its Visual Dataflex-based applications and at the same time, was able to provide its customer with a better backend database solution, thus fulfilling their need for a more robust and standardized database. The ability to offer a reliable MS SQL Server based solution also gave USA Software a huge competitive advantage over some vendors and neutralized competitive pressures from vendors touting their MS SQL Server based-solution.
