Somentec Software AG, founded in 1994, is headquartered in Langen, Germany with a subsidiary in Dresden. Somentec develops and markets XAP – a highly customizable ERP solution for the utility industry. Mertech's Flex2SQL product powers XAP on Oracle and MS SQL Server, providing unmatched performance and scalability.

Somentec's XAP offers its customers a specialized billing tool developed to meet the challenging tasks set by the utilities markets. XAP is a powerful and flexible standard software program for the management and billing needs of the most varied power supply sectors. XAP efficiently accounts for electricity, gas, water, waste, heat and cold, as well as distribution of cost and consumption, or network access, and retail wheeling. Somentec offers its customers a turn-key solution based on a customized package consisting of XAP, consultancy, project execution, integration with current or new data processing systems, data migration, and training. There are nearly 40 utility companies currently using Somentec's billing solutions.

Meeting Customer Demands

In order to keep up with the requirements of its growing customer base and to expand their offering to new markets, offering XAP with a proprietary database was no longer a viable business option for Somentec. Most of Somentec's new and existing customers wanted a solid solution on MS SQL Server or Oracle.

Delivering a Solid Solution

Somentec was one of the first companies to start working with Mertech back in 1997 when Mertech's ISDBC drivers Oracle and MS SQL Server were still under development. Christian Hartlieb, the Managing Director of Somentec provided value input to Mertech's development efforts, which helped improve product performance in several areas.

Christian Hartlieb adds, "We chose Mertech drivers because they were the first and still the only company to offer us a stable driver for Oracle. Mertech was able to continuously improve on the performance and functionality of their driver. With the features of Mertech's drivers, we were able to connect to Oracle and MS SQL Server databases without changing our source code or database structure.
